This one-day paper development workshop (PDW) gives PhD students and postdocs the opportunity to develop a working paper together with experienced faculty and peers. Each accepted paper receives focused, constructive feedback in a small-group setting.
Tracks
- Track 1
-
Data Platforms and Ecosystems
Chairs: Jan Marco Leimeister, Andreas Hein
This track looks at how organisations create and capture value from data beyond their own boundaries, through digital platforms, data marketplaces, data spaces and wider data ecosystems. Because whoever orchestrates an ecosystem sets its rules, we welcome work on how ecosystems emerge and are governed, and how participants can share and combine data without losing control to dominant platforms. Synthetic data generation opens new options here: organisations can share synthetic versions of sensitive data instead of the originals, and new services form around producing and trading them.
- Track 2
-
Data Management and Governance
Chairs: Christine Legner, Aleksi Aaltonen
This track looks at how organisations decide about, manage and take responsibility for data. Topics range from data design, ownership, access rights, sharing and data quality to data products and responses to regulation such as the GDPR, the EU Data Act and the AI Act. For instance, synthetic data adds new governance and data management questions: how to judge whether it is fit for purpose, how to track where it came from, how to keep it from revealing the original data, and who is accountable when it is used to train AI systems. Digital sovereignty depends on being able to decide and enforce who uses data, for what purpose and under which conditions. We welcome work on how organisations build this capacity for different types of data, including real and synthetic data, internally and with partners. We also welcome work on data management in and around organisations, as well as on data governance in general.
Submissions are extended abstracts; each is assigned to one of the two tracks above.
